Have y’all seen this news out of Bob Jones University?

It includes the comment: “for far too long, we allowed institutional policies regarding race to be shaped more directly by that ethos than by the principles and precepts of the scriptures. We conformed to the culture rather than provide a clear Christian counterpoint to it” –fascinating confession!

Thanks all for the comments. Gospel, I do think you are right, but the subtly I think lies in who gets to decide what is in the heart/mind of the other. At certain extremes it may be easy, but in the “in between” I think it is very difficult for humans to judge the intentions/character of the other. Yes, we do it over the long term, but in the midst of conflict, it is much much more difficult. At least that is how I would flesh this out more.

Clever, and something that we should all operate when dealing with issues that divide us. Just because we disagree doesn’t mean that we have to demonize one another.

Wow! That is one powerfully concise and clear clip that makes pointing out racist comments more about teachable moments than condemnation. By focusing on the action or comment itself we are freed to pastorally and lovingly point out a misstep instead of damning a friend, relative, coworker or colleague. Thanks Bruce for your leadership!
