40 Days of Lenten Thanks: Day 5 — Mandarins
No, I’m not giving up Social Media for Lent. My 2013 Lenten discipline is to give thanks to God for those who have helped me to grow into who God intends for me to be and become. See all of my 2013 Lenten Thanks here.
Back in the 1980′s I was extremely involved in the youth activity of drum and bugle corps, playing soprano and mellophone with the Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps. Now before anyone starts in with the band camp jokes, this was NOT marching band, seriously.
I few years ago, I wrote about how The Mandarins helped me to grow as a person, but I want to again thank those who founded the corps 50 years ago and those who have continued to support an organization and community that helped me to grow as a person. From what I can tell corps life has changed a great deal since I finished marching in 1996 – *get off my lawn* – but, I also know that The Mandarins and others are still committed as ever to the discipline, precision and artistry that is Drum and Bugle Corps.
Today, I give thanks for the Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps.
