Do Whatever Day

We are on the tail end of a 9-person family National Parks road trip (pics coming soon), and it has been great, mostly because we all get along and we are committed to our "Do Whatever Day.”
We learned a long time ago that everyone vacations differently. There are some of who pack everything into every day, visit every sight, and do feel truly vacationed unless as much has been done as possible. And then some love to chill in a cafe, people-watch, and soak it all in.
One guess as to which one I am . . . and I’ll take that guess with an iced coffee, strong wifi, and a table on the patio :-)
Over time, whether vacationing as a couple or with the kids, one of the vacation hacks that we have committed to is that every 3-4 days, we have a "Do Whatever Day.” Everyone can choose what they want to do, on their own or with another member of the entourage. This could be working, studying, napping, vegging out in front of the tv, exploring the sights, seeing another museum, or doing another day of chilling in a cafe, people-watching, and soaking it all in, etc.
And boy-oh-boy do we look forward to our "Do Whatever Day” — no forced activities and no judgment. Honestly, it makes the rest of the planned activities that much sweeter and made another vacation that much more restful.
Any tips or hacks that you have to make your vacations more enjoyable and restful?
